Cross Country Opens 2018 with H-Y-P

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard cross country opens the 2018 season with the annual H-Y-P Meet at Franklin Park. The women's race will begin at 1:30 p.m., with the men's race beginning at 2 p.m.

What to Know

  • Harvard, Yale and Princeton held their first triangular meet in 1922. Since then, such triangular competition has held annually with just three interruptions. The Main Memorial Trophy is presented to the winner of the H-Y-P men's cross-country meet, while The Cheever Memorial Trophy is given to the winning women's team.
  • The men's team returns sophomore Hugo Milner, a USTFCCCA All-Region recipient, sophomore Hugo Milner, who ran the fastest time among all freshmen at the meet last fall.
  • The women return four of their top five finishers at Ivy Heps last fall, including freshman Abbe Goldstein who placed 23rd.

At the Helm
Jason Saretsky is in his 13th season as the William W. "Bill" McCurdy Director of Track and Field/Cross Country, and during his tenure, the Crimson has landed 30 student-athletes on All-America teams. A five-time Women's USTFCCCA Northeast Region Coach of the Year winner, Saretsky has mentored 51 combined NCAA qualifiers at Harvard.

Alex Gibby enters his second season as the associate head coach for cross country, leading both the men's and women's teams to USTFCCCA Team All-Academic Awards.
