Price, Shwayder Pace Cross Country at H-Y-P Meet

NEW HAVEN, Conn. –
 Harvard cross-country opened the 2017 season at the H-Y-P Meet, held at The Course at Yale. The men's team, competing against the Bulldogs in a dual meet, placed second with 36 points. Junior Collin Price placed second (19:32.8), while senior Tyler Spear (19:33.6) finished right behind in third place to lead Harvard.

The women's team, competing against both Yale and Princeton, finished third with 63 points. Senior Elianna Shwayder finished fifth to pace Harvard (14:07.4), while freshman Abbe Goldstein took sixth (14:07.8) in her first collegiate race.

Rounding out the scoring for the Harvard women were Fiona Davis (14:43.6), who placed 18th overall, Miranda Sadler (15:07.9, 27th), and Tessa Medrano (15:12.5, 28th).

On the men's side, freshman Matthew Pereira took eighth overall (19:45.4), and senior Louis Colson placed 12th (19:54.3). Freshman John Fish rounded out the scoring for the Crimson with a 15th place finish (20:06.0). 

Harvard Highlights:

  • Four freshmen finished among Harvard's top five scorers combined on the men's and women's teams for Harvard.
  • Collin Price and Tyler Spear had their highest finishes in a cross-country race at Harvard.
  • Elianna Shwayder recorded her best finish in her collegiate career at the H-Y-P meet.

What's Next:
Harvard will compete against other local programs at the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown held at Franklin Park next Friday (Sept. 22).
