LEWISBURG, Pa. – The No. 15 women's water polo team (7-1) won both its matches on day two of the Bucknell Invite. The Crimson first defeated St. Francis (N.Y.), 18-7, in its morning match before going on to top Saint Francis (Pa.), 11-5.
Senior captain Sofia Carrera-Justiz and first-year Brooke Hourigan led the Crimson in scoring, with six goals over the two matches. Sophomore Evan Tingler tallied five goals of her own, while adding two assists and one steal on the day. Carrera-Justiz also recorded a team-high five assists over the two matches and sophomore Inde Halligan earned five steals against Saint Francis (Pa.). In goal, first-year Alexis Kieckhafer totaled four saves, two assists and two steals against St. Francis (N.Y.), while sophomore Zoe Banks had five saves, one assist and one steal against Saint Francis (Pa.)
The Crimson got off to a quick start on day two of the Bucknell Invite, leading St. Francis (N.Y.) 5-1 after the first quarter. A seven-goal second quarter, led by a hat trick from Tingler, would put Harvard up 12-2 going into the half. The Crimson continued its dominance into the third, adding four more goals to its total, two of which came from junior Olivia Price. Despite slowing the pace down in the fourth quarter, Kieckhafer stayed strong in goal, earning a victory in her first collegiate start, as Harvard won 18-7.
Harvard switched up the pace in its second match of the day, starting off slow and only tallying five goals through the first half of play. The Crimson pulled away from the Red Flash in the third quarter, scoring five goals, two from Hourigan, to take the 10-4 lead entering the fourth quarter. With Banks holding Saint Francis (Pa.) to only one goal in the fourth, the Crimson was able to secure the eventual 11-5 victory.
- Both Tingler and Hourigan tallied new career-highs in goals against St. Francis (N.Y.) and Saint Francis (Pa.), respectively.
- The Crimson remains perfect against Saint Francis (Pa.), extending its series lead to 8-0.
- Eleven members of the Crimson found the back of the net on day two of the Bucknell Invite.
The Crimson will head to Princeton, N.J. for the Princeton Invite, Feb. 15-16. Harvard is set to take on San Diego State and St. Francis (N.Y.) on Saturday at 1 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., respectively. On Sunday, the Crimson will face No. 20 Wagner, for the third week in a row, at 12 p.m.
