It has been about a week since we left Boston (or maybe only six days because we never actually experienced January 6th), and we have been soaking in every second of sunshine together. Since the last blog - or as we like to call it, "blob" - update, we have played yet another talented team, eaten lots more yummy food and explored many beautiful beaches. This blob is presented to you with love by Evan Tingler (Sophomore) and Brooke Hourigan (First-year).
Yesterday, aka Saturday in Australia, aka Friday in the U.S., aka we-don't-know-what-day-of-the-week-it-is, we got to catch up on our beauty sleep a little before heading to Ryde Aquatic Leisure Centre. We scrimmaged Balmain and further attempted to successfully play according to FINA rules - we will get it eventually, but by that time we will be in Boston playing with NCAA rules again! Back at the hotel, we have been taking full advantage of the Australian Netflix selection by binging on Harry Potter and Riverdale. For dinner, we went to Spice Thai Restaurant, which reminded us of our favorite Thai food back in the Square, Spicies Thai Restaurant. After dinner, we had some more free time to wander around Coogee, chat with some locals and eat some gelato at our favorite local place, Gelatissimo.
This morning was quite the adventure. We walked along a 4-mile beachside trail from our hotel to Bondi Beach, and the views did not disappoint. We passed many little coves before stopping for a spectacular cliffside photoshoot and made sure to capture everyone's best angles without any unintentional cliff jumps. The rest of our walk consisted of graveyards, natural wave pools and lots of stairs as we struggled to stay on the "right" side of the pathway (or really the left side here Down Under!). Once we finally arrived at Bondi, we passed the famous Icebergs pool, which we hope to get a chance to swim in at some point.
Since today was our off-day, the team had free time to eat at a few different healthy cafes and enjoy delicious mermaid lattes and some pretty interesting "fysh" tacos. After lunch, we did some window shopping at Bondi's open-air street market before it started pouring rain! We spent the next hour or so finding shelter, eating fo-yo, and buying souvenirs. We ate dinner back by the hotel at Beach Burrito Co. while some of us tried Jackfruit in our quesadillas and nachos (yum?). After some gelato, of course, we headed back to our rooms for a relaxing night of more Harry Potter.
We are super excited for tomorrow to make some new Australian-native friends and for the rest of the memories that this trip will bring us! Until next time…
