BRIDGEPORT, Pa. No. 18 Harvard women's water polo senior Kristen Hong was named the Collegiate Water Polo Association Player of the Week as first-year Inde Halligan earned Rookie and Defensive Player of the Week. Over the weekend the pair aided the Crimson to two wins over Iona and Villanova to open up the 2019 season.
The Sydney, Australia native made her Crimson debut during the 10-7 win over Iona and tallied the first Harvard and her first collegiate goal just one minute into the match. Halligan recorded eight steals, three goals and two assists during the two-game campaign.
Senior attacker, Hong led the offensive onslaught for the Crimson against the Wildcats, establishing a five-goal attack in the 20-12 win Sunday afternoon. Additionally, the Orinda, Calif. native tabbed a total seven goals, four assists, two blocks and five designated kick-out's.
The No. 18 Crimson prepares for the Bruno Classic hosted by Brown University this weekend, Feb. 2-3. Harvard will begin play against Wagner at 11:45 a.m. before facing Siena at 6 p.m. Harvard will conclude tournament play the following day at 10:20 a.m. against LaSalle. Broadcast will air on ESPN+.
