Martinelli, Hong Earn CWPA All-Conference Honors

– Senior Michelle Martinelli and sophomore Kristen Hong have been selected to the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) All-Conference teams, as announced by the league office today. Both were selected to the All-CWPA second team, marking the first all-league honors for Martinelli and Hong in their careers.

Martinelli racked up second team honors after a stellar regular season in which she ranked second on the team in goals with 39. The senior played in all 26 games this season for Harvard, and is one of four Crimson with at least 20 assists and 20 steals.

Martinelli has shown the ability to score in bunches, recording two games with a career-high five scores. One of two captains for the Crimson, Martinelli scored multiple goals in 10 different games this season.

Hong earned CWPA second team recognition after totaling 45 goals, 16 assists and 23 steals over the season for Harvard. The team leader in goals, Hong rattled off two scoring streaks over the course of the season of at least 10 games. She opened the 2017 campaign by scoring in the first 10 matches (Feb. 4 – March 5), and later bested that streak with an 11-game goal streak (March 14 – April 14). Hong recorded 13 games where she found the back of the net at least twice, while also ranking fourth on the team in steals.

Harvard now looks ahead to postseason play as it heads to Bloomington, Indiana to square off with No. 17 Indiana at the CWPA Championship Friday at 4:30 p.m.
