CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) announced its weekly awards Thursday, with Harvard's Cleo Harrington being named the Division I/II Rookie of the Week. This marks her first Rookie of the Week win but her second CWPA weekly award after sharing the Defensive Player of the Week award with senior teammate Ariel Dukes.
The Crimson returned home after a successful trip to the west coast with four wins, including an upset victory over then-No. 19 Santa Clara. Harvard's performance vaulted the Crimson back in to the national rankings at No. 20. This is the first time Harvard has been in the poll since February 4.
Harrington was a major part of last week's success, earning two wins and making 49 saves in five games of action. In Harvard's win over Cal St. East Bay, she turned away 10 Pioneer shots and added an assist. The freshman was stout between the posts in the Crimson's upset over then-No. 19 Santa Clara making 15 saves, while limiting the Broncos to only four goals.
Harrington has now made a team-best 124 saves in 16 games this season. Her performance in California also earned a spot on the Defensive Player of the Week Honor Roll as well.
Junior Yoshi Andersen was named to the Player of the Week Honor Roll after leading the way on offense during the Crimson's west coast road trip. In eight games of action, Andersen netted 17 goals, tallied 18 assists and made 6 steals.
The Crimson is back in action April 11, with a double-header against Notre Dame College and Indiana.
