CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Senior Jelena Cyr of the Harvard women's water polo team has been named the Collegiate Water Polo Association Player of the Week for the first time this season, the CWPA announced Tuesday.
Cyr netted seven goals and contributed one assist and three steals at the Princeton Invite last weekend in Princeton, N.J., to help Harvard finish with a 2-1 record. The senior registered three or more goals in two of the three games.
In the opener, Cyr registered three steals to help her team down Virginia Military Institute, 16-6. Harvard then faced Iona for the second time in four games. The Livermore, Calif., native exploded offensively as she found the back of the net four times to power the Crimson past the Gaels in overtime, 13-12. Cyr wrapped up the weekend with three goals and a helper as the Crimson suffered its first setback of the season to Wagner, 11-8.
Cyr, who notches her first CWPA honor of the year, is currently one of the Crimson's top scorers with seven goals and has helped Harvard to a 4-1 overall mark.
