No. 6 UC Irvine Pulls Away From Women's Water Polo

IRVINE, Calif. – Devan Kennifer scored three goals and Ariel Dukes made 13 saves, but the Harvard women's water polo team dropped a 15-8 decision to No. 6 UC Irvine Saturday night. The loss came in the Crimson's last game of its five-game trip to California.

The Crimson shutout the Anteaters in the first period, as Harvard took a 1-0 advantage after eight minutes. Dukes sparkled in the period and throughout the game with fantastic play in goal.

UC Irvine stepped up its offense in the second period, scoring three times and limiting Harvard to two goals to tie the score, 3-3, entering halftime.

Harvard continued to stay close with the Anteaters in the third quarter, as the Crimson scored two more times, but UC Irvine began to pull away. The Anteaters scored four times in the third and exploded for eight scores in the fourth frame to run away with the victory.

Dukes was the catalyst on the defensive end with her 13 stops, while Shannon Purcell, Kennifer and Shayna Price made two steals apiece.

Other than Kennifer's hat trick, Shannon Purcell had two goals and Monica Zdrojewski, Victoria Frager and Aisha Price tallied scores.
