CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard women’s water polo has announced its schedule for the upcoming 2012 season. The Crimson’s schedule is highlighted with four east coast tournaments – including one at Blodgett Pool – and a spring break trip to California.
The Crimson opens the 2012 campaign at the Iona Invitational Feb. 4 before spending two weekends in Princeton, N.J. Harvard will meet Bucknell, Princeton, Villanova and Colorado at the Princeton Invitational Feb. 11-12 and Wagner, Villanova and Iona Feb. 25-26 at the MAAC/East Challenge, also hosted by the Tigers.
Harvard opens the home schedule with another bout against Iona March 2 in the first of four straight games at Blodgett Pool as part of the Harvard Invitational . The Crimson will continue the tournament against Princeton and Bucknell March 3 and San Jose State March 4.
San Jose State is the first of six consecutive contests against California institutions as the Crimson makes its annual west coast swing Mar. 11-17. During the trip Harvard is slated to visit UC Santa Barbara (March 11), Whittier (March 12), Long Beach State (March 16), Cal Baptist (March 17) and UC Irvine (March 17).
The Crimson returns to Cambridge for a home match against Brown March 21, before taking 10 days off, its longest layoff of the regular season.
A trip to Washington, D.C. is next for Harvard where the Crimson takes to the pool against Mercyhurst and George Washington March 31.
The regular season slate concludes with a trip to Brown April 4 and a visit from Hartwick April 10.
Harvard starts Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) tournament play with the Southern Division Championship in Lewisburg, Pa. April 14-15 before culminating the season at the CWPA Northern Division Championship in Providence, R.I. April 27-29.
