CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard women's volleyball head coach, Jen Weiss, recently unveiled the Crimson's 2018 schedule. The 2018 slate features competition against three programs that reached the NCAA Tournament last season, and the Crimson will once again host two of three New England Challenge matches. Harvard will play a total of nine contests at the Malkin Athletic Center beginning with Boston College on September 13. The squad will open the 2018 season at the Michigan Invitational, facing NCAA contenders Cleveland State and Michigan on September 1.
"I am excited that we have an opportunity to play two top teams from one of the best volleyball leagues in the country," said head coach Jen Weiss. "We will head out to the Michigan tournament and we will see Michigan State at another tournament. The goal is to prepare for Ivy league play and there is so much parity in the league we need to play strong competition in our preseason tournaments. The New England Challenge has also become a great tradition and we look forward to that again in 2018."
Harvard finished the 2017 season 13-10 and 8-6 in the Ivy League. For the fifth consecutive year, the Crimson finished top-four in the conference and earned three postseason All-Ivy selections. Conference play for the 2018 campaign is set to open October 21 at Dartmouth.
In addition to Cleveland State and Michigan, Harvard's competition field will also include Eastern Michigan in the season opening tournament. The following weekend, the Crimson will stay closer to home, heading to the Fairfield Invitational (Sept. 7-8) to go head-to-head with Central Connecticut State, NCAA Tournament participant Michigan State and host Fairfield.
The Crimson will battle to continue its reign as Beantown champion when it hosts Boston College (Sept. 13), travels to Northeastern (Sept. 14) and hosts UMass Lowell (Sept. 15) for the New England Challenge.
After a challenging non-conference slate, Harvard will turn its focus to Ivy League action beginning on Sept. 21 at Dartmouth. The Crimson will alternate the following three weekends on the road and at home with Cornell/Columbia (Sept. 28-29), Penn/Princeton (Oct. 5-6) and Brown/Yale (Oct. 12-13) before beginning a five-game home stand through the first week of November. Harvard will wrap up the 2018 regular season on the road at Princeton and Penn on Nov. 9 and 10.
