CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard women's tennis team (14-6, 2-1 Ivy) fought hard, but came up just short to No. 37 Princeton (14-4, 3-0 Ivy), 4-3, Sunday afternoon at the Beren Tennis Center.

The Crimson's top doubles pairing of senior Erica Oosterhout and junior Natasha Gonzalez impressed, defeating Brianna Shvets and Nicole Kalhorn, 6-2. Princeton earned two 6-3 victories in the other matchups to earn the doubles point.

In singles play, Oosterhout continued her success, defeating Stephanie Schrage, 6-2, 6-0, as the team's top singles player. Junior Jenna Friedel followed suit as the team's No. 2, getting past Shvets, 6-1, 6-2. Junior Irene Lu took down Nathalie Rodilosso handily, 6-0, 6-2, rounding out the Crimson's scoring. Both Gonzalez and first-year Rachel Eason each fought hard to a third set, but were just barely edged by the Tigers.

Harvard Highlights:

  • Despite the loss, Harvard has won six of its last seven matches and take a winning Ivy League record to big weekend matchups against Yale and Brown.
  • Friedel improves her singles win streak to nine matches and has an impressive 12-1 record as the team's No. 2 player.
  • Oosterhout and Gonzalez add their team-leading ninth win in doubles play together.
  • Lu dominated the weekend in the No. 6 spot, earning a 6-0 win in the first set of each of her matches this weekend.
