Women’s Tennis Falls to No. 19 Syracuse, 6-1

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Harvard women's tennis team faced its toughest test of the season, falling at No. 19 Syracuse, 6-1, on Sunday.

The Orange set the tone early, defeating Harvard in two doubles matches to earn the doubles point. The pairing of first-year's Rachel Lim and Chelsea Williams were playing well, up 5-1 against Maria Tritou and Sofya Golubovskaya before the point was clinched. In singles play, junior Natasha Gonzalez earned a three-set victory against Tritou, 6-4, 2-6, 11-9, to give Harvard its only point.

Harvard Highlights:

  • The Crimson still own a winning all-time record against Syracuse, 12-4.
  • Gonzalez continues to put up strong numbers this season, sporting a 8-1 singles record in the spring.
  • The pairing of Williams and Lim have played strong tennis together this season, earning a 3-0 record in tournament play together.

Up Next:
The Crimson returns to the Murr Center Courts for the first time since Feb. 3 when the team takes on Boston University and Southern New Hampshire in a doubleheader on Feb. 23 at 1 p.m. and 5 p.m., respectively. Both matches will be broadcast on ESPN3.
