Women’s Tennis Goes Untouched Against Rhode Island in Spring Season Opener

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.– The Harvard women's tennis team kicked off the spring season with a 7-0 victory against Rhode Island at the Murr Center Courts Tuesday. 

The Crimson started the day with three doubles wins, including a 6-0 victory from the pairing of junior Irene Lu and first-year Chelsea Williams against Sydney Chratian and Paulina Loredo. 

In singles play, Harvard was led by the dominant performance of the team's No. 1, senior Erica Oosterhout, who beat Erin Chratian, 6-1, 6-3. Junior Jenna Friedel battled to a 7-5, 6-4 victory at No.2 against Ariel Haber to start her season. Rounding out the top-three was first-year Rachel Eason, earning a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Paulina Loredo. 

Junior Lexi Milunovich captured an impressive third-set tiebreaking victory over Halah Davis 6-2, 2-6, 1-0 (3). Juniors Natasha Gonzalez and Irene Lu rounded out the top-six with 6-1, 6-0 wins, respectively.

Harvard Highlights:

  • Harvard moves to 6-0 all-time against Rhode Island, including back-to-back 7-0 victories. 
  • The duo of Lu and Williams impressed in the first doubles action of the season, earning a 6-0 shutout.
  • Eason earned her first collegiate dual victory, 6-1, 6-3, over Paulina Loredo. 

Up Next:
The Crimson's season-opening stretch of six consecutive home matches continues with a contest Friday against Miami of Ohio at 3 p.m., followed by a doubleheader on Sunday against Fordham (10 a.m.) and Marist (1:30 p.m.). All home matches will be broadcast on ESPN+.
