PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Harvard women's tennis closed out the 2017-18 season with a 5-2 victory over Penn (9-13, 2-5 Ivy) on Sunday afternoon. The Crimson finished second in the Ivy League with a 6-1 league record and 14-9 overall.
The Quakers came out of the gate strong, claiming the doubles point. Junior Erica Oosterhout and sophomore Natasha Gonzalez were tied at 5-5 in first doubles against Ria Vaidya and Ashley Zhu when doubles was decided.
However, the Crimson rebounded winning five of six single matches to claim the match. The top of the Harvard line up was strong. Oosterhout knocked off Vaidya in two sets in first singles, 6-3, 6-1, while sophomore Jenna Friedel defeated Marta Kowalska, 6-1, 7-6. Senior Annika Ringblom took third singles from Zhu, 6-3, 6-2.
Gonzalez sealed the match with a two-set, 6-3, 6-2 win over Nicole Berkman in sixth singles, while classmate Lexi Milunovich rounded out the singles wins for the Crimson with a two-set win in fifth singles.
