Women's Tennis Picks Up A Win Over Quinnipiac

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard women's tennis (8-8) heads into Ivy League play with two straight wins following a convincing 6-1 win over Quinnipiac (8-6) on Sunday afternoon.  

The Crimson began the day on the right track with a sweep of doubles. Junior Erica Oosterhout and sophomore Natasha Gonzalez picked up their 12th win as a doubles team, with a 6-3 win over Dominique Vasile and Proyfon Lohophaison in second doubles. Senior Annika Ringblom and freshman Anna Li kept pace for the team lead in doubles with a 6-4 win in first doubles.

Gonzalez began fourth singles strong, taking the first set, 6-3, but in the second set the Bobcat's Layla Rodriguez mounted a comeback. Rodriguez held a 5-4 advantage over the Houston native, but Gonzalez battled back, winning the next three matches to take the second set, and the match, 7-5. 

Oosterhout earned her 16th singles victory defeating Vasile in first singles, 6-1, 6-0, while sophomore Jenna Friedel knocked off Jennifer Lu in two sets in second singles, 6-2, 6-3.

  • Sophomore Natasha Gonzalez won three straight games in the second set of fourth singles to defeat Layla Rodriguez in two sets.
