Women's Tennis's Match with UC Santa Barbara Halted Due to Rain

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The Harvard women's tennis team (6-8) was back on the courts in southern California against UC Santa Barbara (6-9) Friday afternoon. However, the weather was not too kind to the Crimson as its match with the Gauchos was halted twice due to rain before it was eventually called.

UC Santa Barbara claimed the doubles point with wins in second and third doubles. Sophomore Irene Lu and junior Isabel Jasper gave the Gauchos' third doubles tandem of Stephanie Yamada and Lise Sentenac a fight before falling 6-4.

In the singles portion of the competition, sophomore Natasha Gonzalez was in front of Sentenac after taking the first set, 6-3, and leading 3-2 in the second set before the rains returned. Despite dropping her first set in first singles, junior Erica Oosterhout was leading senior Palina Dubavets, 3-1 in the second, while Lu and Gauchos' Amanda Atanasson third singles match was even at one set a piece.

Harvard Highlights

  • Sophomore Natasha Gonzalez appeared to be heading to her 15th singles victory with a 6-3 win in the first set and leading 3-2 in the second set of fifth singles.
