CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard women's tennis team kicked off the ECAC Championship weekend against Cornell. The Crimson (4-4) downed the Big Red (2-3), 4-3.
Natasha Gonzalez kicked things off for the Crimson with a 6-1, 6-2-win over Ananya Dua. The freshman remains undefeated in the sixth position. Irene Lu outnumbered Maiko Iinuma in the fourth position, tallying a 6-3, 6-2 win. Lu leads Harvard with an 11-9 overall record, including 7-2 in the last 10 matches.
Oosterhout continued on her three-match streak, battling with Marika Cusick in the first position. Cusick took the first set, 3-6, but Oosterhout caught up with a 6-1 win in the second stanza. Oosterhout and Cusick battled to a 7-5 decision in the tie-breaker. Oosterhout now boasts a 6-5 overall record, including a 3-2 mark in the first position.
Although Annika Ringblom dropped the first set, 5-7 to Lizzie Stewart, she gained back momentum to win the second set, 6-3. Ringblom toppled over Stewart in the tiebreaker, wining 6-1. Despite a hard-fought deciding set, June Lee was unable to get the point in second position, falling to Alexandra D'Ascenzo, 2-6, 6-1, 6-2, in the second position.
