COLUMBUS, Ohio - In the second contest of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend hosted by Ohio State, Harvard (0-4) could not top Florida State (2-1), falling 4-1 on Sunday afternoon at the OSU Varsity Tennis Center.
Irene Lu earned her seventh victory of the year with a defeat of Ariana Rahmanparast at No. 5 singles. The freshman got off to a strong start, tallying a 6-1 victory in the first set, and kept her momentum going through the second set, finishing 6-2. Annika Ringblom was unable to finish her match in the fourth position, as the Seminoles walked away with a 4-1 win. The sophomore fell behind early, dropping the first set 5-7, but rebounded in the second set 4-4. At No. 6 singles, Natasha Gonzalez was victorious in her first set over Andrea Varcia, 6-3, and was on her way to a vicious tie-breaker, but was unable to finish the match.
The Seminoles picked up the early doubles point with wins at the first and third positions, prevailing in 6-3 and 6-1 decisions.
Harvard will return to action at home this weekend, hosting a trio of teams. The Crimson will face Boston College on Saturday, Feb. 4 at 2 p.m., and its first double-header of the season on Sunday Feb. 5, hosting Georgetown at 10 a.m. and Rhode Island at 2 p.m. All three matches will be streamed on the Ivy League Digital Network.
