No. 48 Women’s Tennis Set to Challenge Boston University

Kallenberg leads the Crimson with 17 singles victories (Athletic Communications).

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The No. 48 Harvard women's tennis team returns home after competing in Las Vegas and Los Angeles to host Boston University on March 28 at the Murr Center. The doubles matches will begin at 2 p.m.

Last Time Out
In its last non-conference match away from the Murr Center, then-No. 40 Harvard women's tennis fell to No. 31 Long Beach State, 4-3.

Harvard got singles victories from the first, second and sixth positions from Nikki Kallenberg, Monica Lin and Amy He. Kallenberg defeated Maeva Razakasoa in three sets, while Lin and He earned straight-set decisions.

Playing in five tournaments during the fall, Harvard earned plenty of hardware. The Crimson won two of three flights at the Cissie Leary Invitational, all-four singles groups at the Billie Jean King Invite, and every division at the Harvard Invitational.

Overall in 2014-15, freshman Nikki Kallenberg leads the team with 17 singles victories, though freshman Ellen Jang-Milsten is close behind with 15. All of Harvard's student-athletes sport a record of .500 or better. In doubles play, Monica Lin has combined with teammates for 17 wins, with Annika Ringblom in second with 14.

The Crimson student-athletes have combined for a 142-85 (.626) overall record, including a 101-57 mark in singles play and 41-29 record in doubles.

Spring Preview



Tic-Tac-Toe
The Crimson won three-straight matches from Jan. 25-Feb. 8, with each coming at the racquet of a ranked opponent. First, Harvard knocked off No. 45 DePaul at the ITA Kickoff Weekend, and then proceeded to take down No. 60 Boston College and No. 70 North Texas. Freshmen Nikki Kallenberg and Annika Ringblom went a perfect 3-0 in singles play during the streak, while Ringblom and Monica Lin have gone unbeaten playing doubles.

Home, Sweet Home
Harvard has excelled at home over the last three-plus seasons, posting a 28-8 record in dual matches. The Crimson is 3-0 at the Murr Center in 2015.

A Breath of Fresh Air
Harvard's three freshmen have adjusted well to collegiate tennis, combining for a 39-19 record in singles play and 28-25 when paired with a teammate. In the fall, Nikki Kallenberg won the A-division at the Billie Jean King Invitational, Ellen Jang-Milsten won the A-division at the Harvard Invitational, and Annika Ringblom paired with Monica Lin to win the doubles flight at the Cissie Leary Invitational.

Meet the Sophomores

 

On the Sidelines
Traci Green is in her eighth season at the helm for the Crimson. Under her guidance, Harvard won the program's 18th Ivy League title in 2009 with a 13-8 overall record and a 6-1 conference mark. Green owns a 78-68 overall record, including a 76-51 mark over the past six-plus seasons, and 30-19 mark in the Ancient Eight.

What's Next
The Crimson begins Ivy League competition on the road at Cornell and Columbia April 3-4. Both matches are slated to begin at 2 p.m.
