Sylvia Li earned a pair of victories to help the Crimson extend its win streak to four (OAC).
DELAND, Fla. – The Harvard women's tennis team extended its win streak to four consecutive matches with a 5-2 win over Stetson Tuesday afternoon at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.
The Crimson earned the doubles point and took four of the six singles matches to improve to 6-3 on the year, while the Hatters had their three-match win streak snapped to fall to 7-5.
In doubles action, Harvard dominated its hosts. Sylvia Li and Amanda Lin rolled to an 8-1 win over Diana Bukajeva and Jen Miller at No. 2, while the top tandem of Kristin Norton and Hideko Tachibana was not far behind, knocking off Sara Lazarevic and Andrea Crespo, 8-2, to earn the point. The third singles team of Hannah Morrill and Amy He also picked up a decisive victory, topping Lindsey Cable and Eveline Lepinay, 8-3.
In singles play, Stetson tied the match at one with a victory at No. 2; however, the Crimson won the next four matches to seal the win. Lin edged Jen Miller, 6-0, 6-3, at No. 5, and No. 3 He held off Bukajeva, 6-1, 7-6, to put Harvard on the verge of clinching.
Tachibana earned the decisive point by rallying past Crespo, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 1 and Hai-Li Kong followed shortly thereafter with a three-set triumph of her own at No. 4 against Lindsey Cable, 5-7, 6-3, 6-0.
The Hatters closed out the match with a win at No. 6, but it was proved to be too little, too late.
Harvard returns to action Wednesday against South Florida at 2 p.m.
