Harvard Women's Tennis Turns Away Boston College, 5-2

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Harvard women's tennis team held off Boston College to win its second match of the season, 5-2. The Crimson improve to 2-2.
Boston College jumped out to an early lead capturing the doubles point by winning the No. 1 and 3 doubles matches. Harvard's Hideko Tachibana and Natalie Blosser won the No. 2 doubles match against BC's Haley Dixon and Veronica Corning, 8-1, for the Crimson.
The Crimson bounced back though, taking three of the first four completed singles matches. Tachibana notched her second win of the day as she downed Corning, 6-0, 6-4, in the No. 2 singles match. Norton put forth an equally dominant performance in the No. 3 singles match, defeating Katherine Attwell, 6-0, 6-2. Blosser also secrued her second win of the day beating Katarina Gajic, 6-2, 6-3, in the No. 4 singles match.
The Eagles would shrink the deficit to 3-2 when Olga Khmylev toppled Harvard's Samantha Rosekrans, 6-2, 6-2, in the No. 4 singles match.
The final two singles matches provided great drama as both would go to a decisive third set. In the No. 6 singles match, Ina Kauppila forced a third set after blanking Harvard's Samantha Gridley in the second. After trading break points early in the set, Gridley hit numerous clutch shots to take the set and give Harvard the match winning point.
The No. 1 singles match was also in its third set at the time, as BC's Alex Kelleher and No. 45 Holly Cao were battling through duece after duece each point. Cao would prevail and give the Crimson an insurance point.
The Crimson will next be in action next Sunday, Feb. 13, when Maryland visits Cambridge.
