CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – This summer, members of the Harvard men's and women's swimming and diving teams conducted an adult water safety and lesson clinic in nearby Roxbury.
"It is a great opportunity to give back to the community," said Stephanie Wriede Morawski, The Costin Family Head Coach for Harvard Women's Swimming and Diving. "There are so many people who are either afraid of the water or who never learned how to swim. To us, swimming is not just a sport but also a life skill. If we can provide skills to individuals so they can feel more comfortable and safe in the water, then the clinic is a success."
About 20 adults showed up for the second clinic of the summer, led by Morawski and assistant coach Amanda Kulik. The Crimson helped out at the Melnea Cass Pool, a place both programs hope to continue working with.
"We hope this partnership continues and members of the Harvard swim team are able to teach a few clinics every summer," said women's tri-captain Kelsey Hojan-Clark after the event.
