Top-Ranked Women’s Squash Sweeps No. 8 Drexel in First Round of Team Nationals

HARTFORD, Conn. – The top-ranked Harvard women's squash team (11-0, 6-0 Ivy) began postseason play with a 9-0 sweep over No. 8 Drexel on Friday. The team will take on No. 4 Stanford in the semifinal round on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Trinity College.

The team did not allow a point to Drexel, winning every match by a 3-0 margin. Ivy League Player of the Year Sabrina Sobhy led the way for Harvard, defeating Hannah Blatt, 11-2, 11-1, 11-2. Junior Gina Kennedy followed suit, besting Anna Hughes, 11-2, 11-1, 11-3. Classmate Amelia Henley rounded out the top-three with a 11-4, 11-7, 11-1 victory over Mariam Kamal.

In all 11 matches this season, the Crimson held its opponents without a point in each match, finishing all of its matches by a score of 9-0. Harvard on Saturday continues its strong season, which ended with an Ivy League title, the 23rd in program history and fourth in a row for the women's program.

Harvard Highlights:

  • The Crimson extends its win streak to 63-consecutive wins, dating back to the 2014-15 season (Jan. 12).
  • This is the second straight contest where Harvard swept every individual match, totalling 54 consecutive games in a row.
  • The Crimson defeated Stanford earlier in the season, 9-0 at the Murr Center Courts.
  • The program has never lost to Stanford, sporting a 15-0 record all-time against the Cardinal.
  • Stanford took down Yale, 5-4, Friday to advance to the semifinal round.
  • This week, senior Sabrina Sobhy earned 2018-19 Ivy League Player of the Year in the Ivy League. She was joined by Gina Kennedy, Amelia Henley and Kayley Leonard as First-Team All-Ivy recipients.
  • Gregory Lee '87 and Russell Ball '88 Endowed Coach for Harvard University Mike Way was named Coach of the Year in the Ivy League for his fifth-consecutive season.

Harvard will ready for No. 4 Stanford in the semifinal round of the CSA Team National Championship. The match will be hosted by Trinity College on Saturday, Feb. 23, at 2 p.m.
