HANOVER, N.H. - The No. 1 Harvard women's squash team rolled to an 8-1 victory at No. 10 Dartmouth on Wednesday night, starting the 2017-18 season on a high note. The Crimson moves to 48-3 all-time against the Big Green.
Seven of Harvard's nine matches were 3-0 decisions. Reigning Ramsay Cup champion, Gina Kennedy, defeated Dartmouth's Sandra Reiss. Kennedy played at No. 3 for the Crimson. Junior Kayley Leonard occupied the No. 1 slot for the Crimson, defeating Anne Blasberg 3-0. Leonard went 12-1 in 2016-17, including a 5-0 run in Ivy play.
"It was our first match of the season," said co-captain Sue Ann Yong. "There's always nervous energy starting the first match but I thought the team did really well to get the job done today. One thing we've been working on is the mental aspect of the game and to stay mentally strong, consistently. I think this will make a big difference in how we perform for the rest of the season and we're really excited to carry this forward."
