Harvard Women’s Squash Releases Schedule, Will Host CSA Team Championships

Nirasha Guruge earned CSA first-team All-America honors last season (Gil Talbot).

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard women’s squash team, last year’s College Squash Association (CSA) national runner-up, has released its schedule for the upcoming season. The squad will host three home matches, play five matches on the road and face one opponent at a neutral site during the regular season in preparation for the CSA Team and Individual championships.

After an Ivy League scrimmage at Yale Nov. 12-13, Harvard will open the 2011-12 season in Williamstown, Mass. with matches against Williams and Stanford Nov. 18. The Crimson will then travel to Dartmouth Nov. 30, before taking the month of December off from competition.

The team will open the 2012 calendar year with a pair of Ivy League home matches against Penn (Jan. 14) and Princeton (Jan. 15). Three away matches follow with contests at Trinity (Jan. 21), Columbia (Feb. 4) and Cornell (Feb. 5). The regular season schedule finishes with Brown coming to Harvard’s Murr Center Feb. 10, before the Crimson visit Yale Feb. 12.

The Murr Center will host the CSA Team Championships Feb. 24-26 and the CSA Individual Championships are scheduled for March 2-4 in Amherst, Mass.

National championship aspirations remain as the Crimson return 11 athletes from last year’s squad that finished 11-2 overall and 5-1 in the Ivy League. Mike Way, the Gregory Lee '87 and Russell Ball '88 Endowed Coach for Squash at Harvard University, has four returning All-Americans on his roster. Laura Gemmell and Nirasha Guruge earned CSA first-team All-America honors, while Cece Cortes and Natasha Kingshott were selected CSA second-team All-America in 2011-12.
