Women's Squash Defeats Cornell, Moves On to Semifinals of the CSA National Team Championship

PRINCETON, N.J. – The No. 2 Harvard women's squash team easily took care of No. 7 Cornell, 9-0, to advance to the semifinals of the 2011 CSA Women's National Team Championship. The Crimson won eight of the nine matches by scores of 3-0.

Laura Gemmell remained unbeaten this season, downing Jamie Laird in the No. 1 match, 11-5, 11-1, 11-3. Nirasha Guruge swept Jennifer Gemmell in the No. 2 match 11-4, 11-3, 11-9.

Senior captain Alisha Mashruwala played the closest match of the day, going five sets against Jesse Pacheco in the No. 3 match. Mashruwala would come out on top, defeating Pacheco, 8-11, 11-, 11-9, 8-11, 11-6.

June Tiong and Natasha Kingshott won the No. 4 and 5 matches, respectively, by identical 11-7, 11-0, 11-6, scores. Cece Cortes, Sarah Mumanachit, Bethan Williams and Vidya Rajan won the final four matches to ensure Harvard's 9-0 team sweep.

Harvard will take on the winner of the No. 3 Trinity versus No. 6 Stanford match Saturday at 11:30 a.m. The Crimson took a 7-2 decision from the Bantams Feb. 9 and swept the Cardinal, 9-0, back in November.
