Women’s Soccer Kicks Off 2019 at Northeastern

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Looking to regain its position at the top of the Ivy League, Harvard women's soccer opens the 2019 campaign at nearby Northeastern (1-1-0) on Friday, August 30 for a 5:30 p.m. kickoff. The game will be broadcast on NESNplus.

What to Know

  • Harvard returns three All-Ivy selections from a year ago in juniors Murphy Agnew and Maria DiMartinis and sophomore Taylor Nielsen, while junior Linda Liedel was a CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree. The Crimson went 7-7-1 in 2018, including a 4-2-1 third-place mark in Ivy League play.
  • Sophomore Sophie Hirst leads all returners with nine points a year ago, while Agnew and Nielsen were each close behind with eight. Harvard returns 57.8 percent of its goals from last season.
  • Senior Kat Hess and sophomore Samantha Schmitz return between the posts, while first-year Hannah Gardner completes the Crimson's goalkeeping trio. The Harvard defense tallied six shutouts in 2019.
  • Harvard and Northeastern have met seven times, with the Crimson holding a 4-1-2 advantage in the series history. The Crimson tallied a 2-0 victory at Ohiri Field in 2018.
  • Harvard announced a talented first-year class in the spring, with five of the seven newcomers seeing time with youth national teams.

At The Helm
Chris Hamblin leads the Crimson in his fourth season as the Branca Family Head Coach for Harvard Women's Soccer. He was the Ivy League Coach of the Year in 2016 after leading the program to its 13th Ivy League title, and holds a 25-19-5 record at the helm.

Harvard returns to Cambridge Sept. 4 against Quinnipiac, as it starts a stretch of four-consecutive games at Jordan or Ohiri Field. The 7 p.m. kickoff will be broadcast on ESPN+.
