CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Earning the honor of training at the national team level before beginning their first year on campus, incoming freshmen Sophie Hirst and Lara Schenk of the women's soccer team spent time in the U-18 United States national team camp and the U-19 Germany national team camp, respectively.
Hirst, a midfielder and forward from Seattle, has played at the national team level from the U-15 to U-18 age groups, and she again participated in the U-18 national team training camp in June in San Diego. Hirst was part of a 24-player group called for the U-18 team, and was one of six forwards.
Schenk, a midfielder from Seelze, Germany, garnered the camp invite as Germany prepares for the U-19 Women's European Championship in Switzerland. The camp runs from July 1-4 in Kamen, Germany, with the team readying for group stage action against Denmark, the Netherlands and Italy. Schenk is no stranger to the national team level, as she has competed at the U-15 through U-19 levels, including a victory at the U-17 European Championship in 2017.
Hirst and Schenk will join the Crimson in August, with Harvard opening its 2018 schedule on the road August 24 at California.
