    In the past four years, I have changed as a player, and as a person. Being recruited to play for Harvard I had no idea what either of those two terms really meant. For a high-school student from Germany who had never really thought about going to college or playing soccer in the U.S., Harvard sounded about as reasonable of a place for planning your future as Hogwarts. But here I was, in communication with the women’s soccer coaches who wanted me to play for them, a process that I only learned later was called recruiting.

    When I was first told that the head coach from Harvard was interested in recruiting me, I was torn. As flattered as I was, I was also doubtful that I would have any chance at all of being admitted into one of the most prestigious universities in the world. This insecurity would become a theme in my college soccer career - a personal challenge that I was finally able to master with the help of my family, my coaches and my teammates.

  • Ivy League Enhances Exposure, Fan Experience with Long-Term ESPN Agreement

    The Ivy League and ESPN have agreed to a long-term relationship to showcase Ivy League events through a variety of ESPN platforms, including at least 24 events annually on ESPN’s linear networks and more than 1,100 annually on ESPN+. This will include coverage for all 42 Harvard varsity programs.
  • Purce ’17 Named to United States U-23 Training Camp

    Adding to her growing list of appearances with U.S. Soccer, former Harvard striker Margaret Purce ’17 has been selected to the under-23 national team training camp. The camp will overlap with the full national team training camp, per U.S. Soccer, and will be held in Carson, California.

    Putting in top performances on the field, as well as in the classroom, seniors Marie Becker and Dani Stollar and junior Leah Mohammadi were named CoSIDA Academic All-District award recipients on Thursday. Harvard was the only program in its region to garner three recipients.

    Putting forth one of the top performances by a goalkeeper in the country this season, junior Danielle Etzel made 16 saves and helped lead the Crimson to a 0-0 tie with Columbia in double overtime on Saturday night at Rocco B. Commisso Field. Harvard women’s soccer finishes the season at 8-8-1 overall, including a 2-4-1 mark in Ivy play, securing its 11th-consecutive season with a record at .500 or better.

  • Agnew Earns Ivy League Rookie of the Week Honors

    The Ancient Eight’s top goal scorer over the past week, Harvard women’s soccer forward Murphy Agnew has been named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week for the span of Oct. 23-29. The award is her second of the season, after also earning the honor Sept. 19.
