CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Juniors Gina Wideroff and
Katherine Sheeleigh have been selected by their teammates as
captains of the women’s soccer team for the 2010 season, head
coach Ray Leone announced Thursday.
Wideroff, who also served as a co-captain for the Crimson in 2009,
earned her second consecutive All-Ivy League honorable mention nod
this year. Wideroff, who hails from Boca Raton, Fla., scored two
goals and assisted on two game winners, while starting all 16 games
she appeared in at midfield.
Sheeleigh, a forward, was named to the NSCAA All-Mid-Atlantic
Region third team after leading Harvard with eight goals and 21
points. A nominee for Soccer News Net Player of the Year,
Sheeleigh, who was also an Academic All-Ivy League choice, netted
four game-winning tallies and ranked third in the Ivy League in
points and fourth in goals. A native of New Vernon, N.J., Sheeleigh
was honored on the All-Ivy League first team for the third straight
season.
Harvard finished the 2009 season with a 9-7-1 overall record,
including a 6-1 mark in the Ivy League. The Crimson won its second
straight Ivy title and earned a trip to the NCAA tournament for the
second time in as many years.
