CAMBRIDGE, Mass.- Winning an NIRA semifinal game for the second straight year, women's rugby defeated Dartmouth in a thriller 23-22 to advance to the national championship.
The Crimson struck first as Milan Roberts tabbed a penalty kick to make the score 3-0. After a scoring run by Dartmouth, senior Emily Prentice punched in a try with three minutes left in the first half to cut the Big Green's lead to 12-8.
Harvard hit the ground running in the second half when Sofie Fella touched down for a try to regain the lead 13-12. Dartmouth would score back-to-back tries before Delia Hellander answered for the Crimson with a try to make the score 22-18. Roberts then tabbed a conversion to cut the lead to two.
In the biggest moment for the Crimson this season, Roberts converted a penalty kick to give the team the lead, 23-22 with under two minutes to play. Harvard's defense would stop a few surges from Dartmouth in the closing minutes to hang on for the NIRA semifinal win.
