Women’s Rugby Begins Hunt for NIRA Title, Hosts American International College Saturday

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.– The second-ranked Harvard women's rugby team (6-1) kicks off the National Intercollegiate Rugby Association (NIRA) playoffs with a quarterfinal matchup against the seventh-ranked American International College (4-3). Kick-off will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday November 10 at Mignone Field on ESPN+.

What to Know:

  • The Crimson enters into the playoffs as the No. 2 seed, the highest ranking in program history. 
  • Harvard is coming off its second Ivy Championship in program history, knocking off formerly unbeaten Dartmouth, 12-3. 
  • This is only the second meeting between Harvard and American International in 15s play, with the last coming in 2014. 
  • Senior Caitlin Weigel leads the team in tries with seven, after scoring a pivotal try in the Ivy Championship game against Dartmouth. 

At the Helm:
Harvard Head Coach Mel Denham is in her second season with the team. In her inaugural season, she posted a 21-14-1 record across 15s and 7s play. This is her second straight berth into the NIRA Quarterfinals.
