CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard Wrestling split its home doubleheader on Saturday, falling to Columbia, but responding with a victory over Hofstra. The Crimson was on the short end of a 32-3 decision vs. the Lions before answering with a 24-19 effort vs. the Pride.

Hunter Ladnier went 2-0 on the day after he defeated Dan Reed of Columbia by a 2-0 decision and Hofstra's Ryan Burkert by a 6-3 score at 157 pounds. The junior was the lone Crimson wrestler to post a win against the Lions (8-4; 3-3 EIWA), but Ladnier jumpstarted Harvard in the match vs. the Pride (6-13; 2-7 EIWA).

The contest with Hofstra started with Ladnier's weight class and after he earned three points for the home side, Tyler Tarsi followed suit with a decision of his own, winning 9-5 in his bout with Chris Mauriello at 165 pounds.

Hofstra, however, earned three straight decisions and was the beneficiary of a forfeit, propelling them to a 15-6 lead. The scoreboard shifted toward Harvard when the Crimson scored two forfeits and a fall. The latter came from Ryan Friedman at 141 pounds. All the senior needed was 1:26 to pin Jacob Martin to help put the match out of reach for Harvard despite the Pride tallying a major decision at 149.

Harvard Highlights

  • Friedman recorded his first fall of the season and the second of his career. The pin was Harvard's third in dual action.
  • Ladnier, who missed the last three dual contests, extended his winning streak to four matches. He is now 5-2 in the dual season.
  • Harvard picked up its second EIWA victory of the season and is now 2-8 overall and 2-6 against EIWA competition.
