Wrestling Finishes Strong on Day Two at Midlands Tournament

EVANSTON, Ill. – Closing out the 2017 calendar year, the Crimson's senior captains Kanon Dean and Josef Johnson led the way the 55th Midlands Tournament. Dean posted a 3-2 record over the two-days in the 184-weight class, while Johnson finished with a 2-2 mark at 174.

After going 2-1 and facing the No. 1 wrestler in the nation on day one, Johnson returned to the mats to square off against Indiana's Devin Skatzka in the round of 12. The New Jersey native gave Skatzka a tough fight, but was unable to keep pace, falling via a 9-5 decision.

Dean, who made it to the second day of the two-day tournament winning three consecutive decisions in the consolation round, fell to Pittsburgh's Nino Bonaccorsi with an 11-5 decision.  

Harvard finished 30th overall the Midlands Tournament, six wrestlers posted points towards the team score.

Harvard returns to action on Jan. 6 with the Franklin & Marshall Open in Lancaster, Pa.
