EVANSTON, Ill. – Bringing an end to the 2016 Midlands Championships, junior Josef Johnson added one victory to his Thursday total to finish in eighth-place overall. He was Harvard's top-placing wrestler for the third time this season, as he posted a pair of second-place results earlier this season.
After going 2-1 on day one, the Piscataway, New Jersey native triumphed over Central Michigan's Christian Brucki by a 7-5 decision in the second consolation round of eight. Johnson dropped a 6-0 bout to Wisconsin's Ryan Christensen in the fifth consolation round, and advanced to the seventh-place contest against Jordan Pagano (Rutgers) in a rematch of the second round. Johnson wound up the day in eighth after falling by major decision, 15-2, in the final bout of the evening.
Harvard finished 29th overall at the Midlands Championships, as five student-athletes posted points towards the team score. The Crimson returns to action Jan. 7 at the Franklin & Marshall Open. The meet will be broadcast on GoDiplomats.com.
