CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – This past Saturday, April 6th, Harvard Athletics hosted its 8th Annual Mass Bay Girls Lacrosse League (MBGLL) Day at the Harvard Athletics Complex.
Seven teams from the MBGLL visited Harvard and started at 11:30 a.m. with a series of scrimmages on Jordan and the Cumnock Fields. Following the scrimmages, Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) hosted workshops for both parents and kids in attendance. PCA is a national non-profit organization with a focus on changing the culture of youth sports to create a more positive, character-building experience. They work with coaches, administrators, parents and youth sport organizations to achieve this goal.
"All of us at Positive Coaching Alliance appreciate having the opportunity to work with the players and parents in the MBGLL to share how sports done right teach character, leadership, grit, resilience, teamwork and so much more," said Beth Maloney – Executive Director of PCA New England. "To do this at Harvard, and walk over to see college athletes competing with character is powerful. PCA is honored to be a part of this long-standing program in partnership with MBGLL and Harvard."
Afterwards, the teams were treated to lunch as they watched the Harvard Women's Lacrosse team play Columbia in Harvard Stadium. To wrap up an eventful day, the kids had the opportunity to meet and get autographs postgame from the Crimson.
"MBGLL's Classic League looks forward every year to a fun day participating in Harvard's Youth Lacrosse Day," said Christine Habermann – Executive Director of MBGLL. "It is a day when young female athletes are able to play their games, discuss life lessons during a PCA clinic, cheer on role-models, and dream about following in the footsteps of Crimson players. This day truly impacts MBGLL's female players in a positive way!"
The MBGLL is operated out of Eastern Massachusetts, organizing a program for over 10,000 young girls' lacrosse players. The MBGLL currently represents over 80 towns with over 400 teams spanning from first to eighth grade. Their mission is to promote girls' youth lacrosse in an environment that emphasizes fun while developing skills, teamwork, good sportsmanship, and integrity.
