Willoughby Nets First Career Goal in 3-3 Draw at Brown

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Rookie Kyra Willoughby scored her first collegiate goal as the Harvard women's hockey team (11-13-4, 9-9-3 ECAC Hockey) tied Brown (5-20-3, 2-16-3 ECAC Hockey) 3-3 in overtime on Friday night in Providence.

Beth Larcom made 21 saves in net while Lexie Laing and Becca Gilmore contributed four shots on goal each. 

Willoughby cashed in with a rocket from the point just 2:38 into play. Harvard would hold the 1-0 advantage until just under 13 seconds remaining in the first when Brown chipped back to tie the score at 19:47. The lone goal in the second period came from the Bears at 12:47 on a breakaway that allowed Shay Maloney to go one-on-one with Larcom. 

It took just 22 seconds in the third period for Harvard to reset, tying the game at two on Kat Hughes' tough angle shot at the right side of the crease. Less than a minute later, Kate Hallett would light the lamp from the slot for a 3-2 Harvard lead. Scoring continued 1:15 later when the Bears came back to tie the game at three, 2:18 into the final frame. The teams would hold each other scoreless for the remainder of regulation including through a flurry of penalties in the final three minutes of the game. 

In the overtime period, Harvard managed four shots on target and killed off a penalty but was unable to break through Isaac for the win. With the tie, the Crimson now has 21 conference points and sits tied for sixth with one game remaining in the regular season.

Harvard will head to New Haven, Conn. to take on Yale in its final regular season contest tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 23 at 3 p.m. at Ingalls Rink. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
