Jillian Dempsey leads the team with 16 points this season
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – After capping the 2011 portion of the schedule with a pair of non-conference wins, the Harvard women’s hockey team saw two team members honored by the league. Jillian Dempsey earned Player of the Week honors while rookie Samantha Reber was dubbed Rookie of the Week in an announcement made Tuesday.
Dempsey continued her consistent scoring pace through last week, posting multi-point games in wins over Providence and New Hampshire. Against the Friars, Dempsey posted a goal and two assists, notching her highest single-game output this season. The junior collected the game-winning goal and also posted Harvard’s first shorthanded score of the season against Providence. At home against New Hampshire, Dempsey logged a goal and an assist, and finished the game with a +3 rating. She now leads the team in points (16), goals (9), power-play goals (4) and plus/minus (+7).
Reber put together solid performances in both contests last week. Against the Friars, she picked up her third assist of the season in a 5-1 win. The following night, Reber notched the first multi-goal game of her career, potting a pair of scores, including the game-winning tally, in a 5-2 win over UNH. She is now tied for the team lead in points among first year players with six, and is tied for the team lead with a +7 rating.
The awards are Harvard’s second and third of the season, as Laura Bellamy picked up league Goalie of the Week honors earlier this season.
