CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Junior forward Kate Buesser of the Harvard women’s ice hockey team has been named the New England Hockey Journal’s ECAC Player of the Year. The magazine printed its “Player of the Year” awards in the May, 2010 issue, which featured men’s and women’s award-winners from ECAC Hockey, Hockey East, Atlantic Hockey and Division III.
Buesser enjoyed a breakout season in 2009-10, helping the Crimson earn a berth in the 2010 NCAA tournament. The Wolfeboro, N.H., native led the team in goals (16), assists (24) and points (40) and was the top-ranked player in ECAC Hockey in plus/minus with a +25 rating. Following the 2009-10 season, Buesser was named to the New England Hockey Writers All-Star Team as a forward, received All-ECAC Hockey and All-Ivy League first team accolades and was a nominee for the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award, presented annually to the nation’s top player.
Elected captain for the 2010-11 season along with juniors Leanna Coskren and Liza Ryabkina, Buesser will look to lead the Crimson back to the NCAA tournament.
