Women’s Fencing Preps for Home Meet with Wellesley and Tufts

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.- Women's fencing returns home to Cambridge to take on Wellesley and Tufts in its first of two home meets this season on Thursday, Dec. 5. The meets are scheduled to take place at the Malkin Athletic Center volleyball court and be broadcast on ESPN+.

The first bouts will take place against Wellesley at 4:30 p.m. Following that match the Crimson will take to the strip against Tufts at 6:00 p.m.

Harvard holds the series lead over Wellesley 23-5. In their last meeting during the 2018-19 season the Crimson prevailed 25-2. Harvard holds a perfect 25-0 record against Tufts, in which they won their meeting last season 24-3.

What to Know

  • The Crimson swept the competition at the Brandeis Invitational last weekend going 4-0 and advancing to 7-3 on the year.
  • Junior epeeist Cindy Gao holds the best touch differential on the team at plus-39 with a record of 20-10.
  • Senior captain Marta Lasota holds the best record for the Crimson at 21-9 with the next best touch differential at plus-35.

At the Helm
The Crimson had a busy offseason adding many new faces to Cambridge including Daria Schneider who will enter her first season at the helm for Harvard. Schneider comes to Harvard after a three-year stint as head coach at Cornell where she notched 34 victories, including a program best 19 in 2016-17, and was named Ivy League Co-Coach of the Year in 2018.
