CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In its second and final home bout of the 2017-18 season, the No. 6 Harvard women's fencing team took down NYU, 21-6, at the Malkin Athletic Center this Sunday, Feb. 4. The women move to 9-4 this season.
Saanchi Kukadia led the Crimson overall with a plus-11 touch differential and 3-0 record. Kukadia led the epee squad to a 9-0 sweep over NYU, assisted by Sharon Ra and Shawn Wallace who also posted 3-0 decisions. Wallace followed closely behind Kukadia with a plus-nine touch differential with Ra coming in at plus-eight.
The foil squad had a slow start in its competition, but dominated in the second half by earing six straight points to defeat NYU, 7-2. Senior co-captain MacKenzie Lawrence and Liana Henderson-Semel led foil to its victory, both posting 3-0 shutout records. Lawrence tallied 5-3, 5-1 and 5-3 wins to push the Crimson to victory.
The women's sabre battled to a 5-4 win over the Bobcats, led by the efforts of Julia Carstens, Marta Lasota and Gabrielle Tartakovsky. Tartakovsky went undefeated, tallying a 3-0 record and plus-six touch differential with wins of 5-3, 5-2 and 5-4. Lasota followed closely behind, posting a 2-1 record and plus-five touch variance.
Harvard will prepare for the Ivy League Championships Feb. 10-11 in Princeton, N.J. All bouts will be broadcast live on the Ivy League Network.
