No. 6 Women’s Fencing Falters at St. John’s Invitational, Posting 2-3 Record

QUEENS, N.Y. – The No. 6 Harvard women's fencing team was challenged at the St. John's Invitational this Saturday, Jan. 20, posting a 2-3 record. The Crimson is now 8-4 overall in the 2017-18 season.

The women defeated No. 10 St. John's (16-11) and No. 5 Ohio State (14-13), before falling to No. 2 Columbia (9-18), No. 1 Notre Dame (9-18) and No. 3 Penn State (12-15). Against St. John's, the Crimson were able to walk away with a 9-0 sweep in foil, led by the efforts on Liana Henderson-Semel, MacKenzie Lawrence and Natalie Yang. Senior co-captain Lawrence secured a plus-4 touch differential, good for second on the team this tournament.

Against Ohio State, the epee squad had a near perfect sweep defeating the Buckeye's 7-2, while the foil fencers added a 5-4 tally. Shawn Wallace led the team in touch differential, registering a plus-12 mark and taking down Notre Dame and OSU 3-0.

What's Next
The Crimson returns home for the second time this season, hosting NYU on Feb. 4 at 1 p.m. The bout will be broadcast on the Ivy League Network.
