Eleven Crimson Fencers Qualify for NCAA Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - A successful regular season by the men's and women's fencing teams has culminated in 11 Harvard fencers qualifying for the 2017 NCAA Championships, as announced by the organization Tuesday. 

On the women's side, Adrienne Jarocki, Gabby Tartakovsky, Shawn Wallace, Sharon Ra, MacKenzie Lawrence, and Hali Nelson were selected, while Albert Chien, Matthew Branman, George Haglund, Eli Dershwitz and Erwin Cai were chosen from the men's side.
 
Jarocki and Tartakovsky led the women's team at the NCAA Northeast Regionals, placing second and seventh, respectively, in sabre. Foil fencers Lawrence and Nelson placed in the top-10 at regionals, while Ra and Wallace placed ninth and 15th in epee. The women's team ended the regular season ranked ninth in the country with a 14-8 overall record.
 
The men's team placed fourth at the Ivy League Championship and finished the regular season ranked eighth at 12-9. Foil fencers Branman and Haglund paced the men's team at the NCAA Northeast Regionals, placing second and third, respectively. Dershwitz earned the gold medal in men's sabre, while Cai placed in the top-10. Chien placed first in the men's epee event.
 
Notre Dame and Indiana Sports Corp will host the championships at Indiana Farmers Coliseum in Indianapolis, Indiana March 23-26.
