Women’s Fencing Battles to a 3-2 Record at Tradition Tournament

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Harvard women's fencing team opened its 2016-17 campaign at the Tradition Tournament at Sacred Heart this past weekend. The team finished the weekend with a 3-2 overall record after facing competitors from Vassar, Penn State, Sacred Heart, Temple and NYU. 

Senior co-captain Adrienne Jarocki led the Crimson with a 14-1 record and a +34-touch differential in sabre. For epee, sophomore Shawn Wallace recorded an 11-4 record and a +31-touch differential. Senior co-captain, Liana Yamin led in foil with an 8-1 record and a +25-touch differential.

The Crimson (3-2) earned a 24-3 victory over Vassar in the first round of the tournament including a 9-0 sweep in sabre. The women continued on to a rigorous second round against Penn State; despite a strong 6-3 performance in sabre, the women just narrowly missed the win, falling 14-13.  

In the third round, Harvard found its momentum, shattering Sacred Heart, 23-4. The epee and foil fencers captured 8-1 marks. The Crimson faced Temple in the fourth round and was unable to secure the win, falling 15-12.

Harvard closed out the tournament with a 22-5 victory over NYU, including a 7-2 mark in epee, 7-2 finish in foil and 8-1 performance in sabre.

The women's team will host Wellesley College on Wednesday, December 7 at 6 p.m. The duel will be broadcast live on the Ivy League Digital Network.
