Women Fencers Dominate Bout Against Wellesley

All nine women fencers sweep in dual against Wellesley (Gil Talbot).

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard women's fencing kicked off its season with a complete sweep of Wellesley Thursday night at the Malkin Athletic Center, 27-0. All nine fencers dominated the strips winning each of their bouts.

The win helps the Crimson women get a victory under its belt, 1-0, while the Blue drops to 7-7. Harvard now boasts a 20-5 all-time record against Wellesley.

Fencing the epee, Shawn Wallace, Claire Dinhut and Sharon Ra all went 3-0 to help Harvard out to a great start. The Blue never had a chance to come up on top in foil as Liana Yamin, Hellary Zhang and Hali Nelson gave up only 13 touches in the bouts.

Saber fencers Aliya Itzkowitz, Gabby Tartakovsky and Adrienne Jarocki kept the Blue to 11 touches as they pushed Harvard to a triumph.

Harvard women's fencing continues its 2015-16 slate traveling to the Tradition Tournament in Fairfield, Connecticut, hosted by Sacred Heart, to compete against the host, New York University, Penn State and Vassar on Saturday, Dec. 6.
