  • Six Crimson Fencers Take Strip at US National Championships

    A total of six Harvard fence took the strip at the USA Fencing Division I National Championships at the Minneapolis Convention Center April 11-14. The event featured over 1,000 athletes vying for National Champion titles and positions on the 2014 Senior World Team over the course of the four-day event.
  • Three Fencers Compete at Junior World Championships

    Three Harvard fencers made the trip to Plovdiv, Bulgaria last week to compete at the Junior World Championships April 3-12. Michael Woo and Nina van Loon won Silver medals in their respective weapon team competitions with USA, while Aliya Itzkowitz fenced on team Great Britain.

    Freshman Adrienne Jarocki leads the women’s sabre field with 13 victories, as the Harvard fencing team concluded day one at the 2014 NCAA Championship at Ohio State’s French Field House Thursday evening. The Crimson concluded the first session of women’s competition in fourth place with 50 wins.
  • Fencing’s Hunt for NCAA Championship Begins Thursday

    The Harvard fencing program’s quest for its second national title begins Thursday, March 20 as 11 Crimson fencers head to Columbus, Ohio for the 2014 NCAA National Championships. Over the course of four days Harvard will compete at Ohio State’s French Field House for individual and team crowns as well as All-American honors. The women will compete on the strip March 20-21 to open the competition with the men closing the event March 22-23.

    The Harvard fencing program qualified 11 fencers to compete at the 2014 NCAA Championships the NCAA announced this afternoon. The Crimson’s quest for its second national crown begins Thursday, March 20 in Columbus, Ohio at Ohio State’s French Field House.
  • No. 3 Women’s Fencing Captures Five Medals at NCAA Regionals

    Five members of the third-seeded Harvard women’s fencing team earned spots on the podium at the 2014 NCAA Northeast Regionals hosted by Wellesley College Sunday. Freshman sabre fencer Adrienne Jarocki and sophomore epeeist Isabel DiTella highlighted the Crimson’s performance with gold medals while sophomore sabre fencer Aliya Itzkowtiz and senior foil fencer Alexandra Kiefer earned silvers. Sophomore Nina van Loon rounded out Harvard’s medalist’s with bronze in the epee.

    Alexander Eldeib and Stephen Mageras of the No. 6 Harvard men’s fencing team captured their first Junior Olympics medal this weekend as the Crimson freshmen took home gold and silver, respectively. The No. 3 Harvard women’s fencing team was also represented at the event as sophomore Nina van Loon earned her spot on the U.S. Junior epee team.

    Aliya Itzkowitz of the Harvard women’s fencing team has been selected as one of Sports Illustrated Faces in the Crowd featured in the December 23 issue. The sabre fencer is one of six athletes across the nation to earn the honor that has been published in every week of the magazine dating back to 1956.

    Over the weekend, five members of the Harvard fencing teams competed at the December North American Cup. The second 2013-14 North American Cup of the year featured over 1,000 athletes from across the United States and Canada and acts as a key qualifier for both the 2014 Senior and Junior World Championships. Four fencers represented the Crimson men while Nina van Loon was the lone competitor from Harvard’s women’s squad.

The Crimson will face New York, Penn State, Sacred Heart, Temple and Vassar on the strip. Fencing will commence at 10 a.m. at the Pitt Center.

    The Harvard women’s fencing team opened its season with a 22-5 victory over Tufts at the Malkin Athletic Center Thursday evening. The Crimson’s foil and saber squads went 8-1 while the epee posted a 6-3 score.
