CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The No.7 women's fencing team swept all three Boston area opponents, MIT, Boston College and Brandeis to claim the 2012 fencing Beanpot title, Tuesday night at the Malkin Athletic Center. The foil division led the way for the Crimson going a combined 25-1 in its three matches.
Harvard led off against the MIT Engineers, as the Crmison got strong returns from its saber and foil fields, going 7-2 and 9-0, respectively. The Engineers battled tough in the epee class, but were edged by the Crimson 5-4. Harvard defeated MIT by a final score of 21-6. Next on tap for Harvard was Boston College. The saber and foil classes again led the way for the Crimson going a combined 15-3 (saber 7-2, foil 8-1). The epee class also got the best of its opponents taking the division 5-4 and helping to topple the Eagles 20-7. In the final matchup of the evening the Crimson would pair up with Brandeis. Harvard dominated in every field only losing three bouts in the match as the epee class went 6-3, while both the saber and foil divisions went a flawless 9-0, to bury the Judges, 24-3.
Harvard will now prepare for the NCAA regionals which will be hosted by Boston College on March 11, 2012. Check back later for individual records and results.
