The Black and White celebrating with the trophy Sunday afternoon (Harvard-Radcliffe lightweight crew).
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard-Radcliffe lightweight crew team claimed victory at the 52nd annual Head of the Charles Regatta Sunday afternoon. For the third-straight year, the Black and White finished first among the collegiate squads, but improved on last fall's second-place overall finish.
The Black and White eight finished in 18:17.592 to best Boston University by more than 10 seconds (18:28.027). MIT (18:34.996), Princeton (18:52.924) and A.S.R. Nereus (18:54.563), a Dutch team, rounded out the top five finishers. Coxed by Mckenzie Parks, the varsity eight was stroked by Alanah Anderson, followed by Elizabeth Pate, Samantha Shao, Adrienne Bielawski, Genevieve Shaw, Ruby Emberling, Julia Baumel and Serena Blacklow.
"Before the eight launched, the boat acknowledged the challenges today's weather could brind during their race, said head coach Sarah Baker. "Together, they made the decision to use it to their advantage and leave everything out there on the water."
In the fours race, the Black and White finished sixth of 11 teams with a time of 20:52.801. Radcliffe was the fourth-best collegiate squad in the race.
