CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Radcliffe heavyweight crew opened the first day of the 55th Head of the Charles Regatta with two top-4 performances on the Charles River Saturday afternoon.
Coxed by Sophie Haugen, the Black and White took fourth place in the Club Four race. Radcliffe was the 55th boat to start the 56-team head race and registered an impressive performance, surpassing nearly 20 boats to ultimately record a time of 19:01.666. Finishing ahead of the Black and White were Duke, Tennessee and St. Joseph's, all of which were among the first 11 to open the competition.
Radcliffe's Club Eight entry, meanwhile, also came in fourth place, clocking in at 16:48.244. Coxed by Holly Conlon, the Black and White, which was 18th on the water, was the third-best collegiate crew team, finishing behind Yale and Drexel. Potomac took home the gold.
